Matcha Madness!

I made matcha cupcakes last night, some I left plain and some I served with Matcha infused whipped cream. I really need to get more practice using my new frosting gun. I enjoyed the little cakes, but I think I am forever on a quest for more matcha flavor! I think I could have dumped my whole tin of matcha in the batter and would have loved it!. I also got this soba plate in the picture from Daiso.

Yesterday I received a surprise in the mail! Bunny's Mom sent me this beautiful origami paper for getting an A on my cell phone essay. This is very high quality origami paper, made by the same company that made my mug with the bunny on it in the photo above. It feels so good to have people send such good thoughts your way! I have to say, I have a very thoughtful Mother-in-law.
I will use this as motivation to do my best on the current essay I am working on. This paper is currently is aching my brain because this is the end of term essay. I have really enjoyed this class, however. She also included this beautiful card which I promptly added to my cabinet collage project.

Here is the some more Daiso stuff. I suppose it is my thing lately to end my posts with Daiso stuff. I cannot get enough of Daiso! Everyday the little trinkets I got there put a smile on my face!
Here are my new Bunbun slippers!

And here is my new mouse pad, I love the worried egg and his egg friend looks like he is comforting him. So kawaii!

I agree with amanda. That mousepad is too much!

Loving the updates from Daiso. You must have spent your life savings there! :) Just kidding.

What does matcha taste like?

Oh man, those matcha cupcakes look so good. I agree with you, I can never get enough matcha flavor. I always add more in a baking recipe.

Your mother-in-law sounds like a real nice lady. :)

And, my brother brought back that same mousepad from Japan for my parents! :D

You are a brilliant chef! I have some matcha powder at home too! I don't know how to bake so I only drink matcha.

Wow, domo arigato for all the sweet remarks on my cupcakes. All I could focus on was how I didn't like how the frosting looked!

Regarding matcha, it is a high quality green tea and comes in powder form. It has a earthy but sweet flavor. I hope that is a good description, I have a friend from Japan that told me "Green tea is green tea and Matcha is MATCHA" while we were sipping cups of it. And I felt that summed it up very nicely! Matcha is used in a lot of baking and sprinkled on ice cream, used in tea ceremonies and I have even put on baked salmon after reading about someone who tried it. I am no expert on matcha, there a people who are matcha masters.
Oh, and Cha means tea in japanese, O-cha is the polite way to say it. I also love it in tolietries, like bath salts, incense, lotion, etc.

The cupcakes look good. I love matcha. About how much do you normally use for a cupcake recipe?

Dr. Gray,

I use around two TB of matcha mixed with a little water to make a paste in my baked goods. Some recipes say just to use a half tsp, but I have found that it doesn't produce strong enough matcha flavor.

The paste helps evenly distribute the matcha, and makes it so you can do a swirl effect.
And after I measure out the 2 TB, to e honest I always add a little more!
